Taking a Toll in Pennsylvania

Taxing the Interstate Highway

Can you imagine the nerve of Pennsylvania wanting to impose a tax on users of the federally funded Interstate Highway System? New Jersey drivers, in particular, should be outraged as Pennsy wants to target out of state drives with a a new toll on its 313-miles of Route 80.

Another reason all of New Jersey should be outraged is that Pennsy is stealing our idea. A majority of the New Jersey Turnpike mainline as well as the entirety of both extensions and spurs are part of the Interstate Highway System.

Soon, Pennsy will steal our toll system for Route 80 and later follow Gov. Corzine's plan to 'monetize' it by leasing the grunt work to someone else.

I say, skip Pennsylvania this year, drive around it.
